Give me a break!
I am so upset. Dh and I have been struggling since his hours have been cut. We have had to do checking account advances with our bank for weeks now just be pay what HAS to be paid and have the cheapest meals to eat. We were finally getting on track and wouldn't have to do another advance this week. I wrote a check ~ and I know i shouldn't have~ for our mortgage on wednesday knowing dh and I both got paid on friday. It never clears for at least 2 days so I figured it'd be fine. I get up friday morning and check the account and sure enough other things have cleared but not the mortgage check.
Dh's check has been direct deposited so all we need is a little from my check when I get it and we are good and will have money left over for food and gas and not have to do an advance. NOPE! I get up this morning and even though I cashed my check at my boss's bank and deposited cash at my bank, it is showing up pending and not to "clear" and be available until MONDAY! I usually get my check in the am and it is cleared that day. But I guess even if it is CASH I have to wait the whole weekend for my money to clear!!!???? Needless to say the mortgage check went through and I had used my atm card last night a few times so now it is showing 4 overdrawn fees! $37 each! I am in tears! We don't have/can't afford those fees! Now we'll have to do another advance to get us to next payday. I called the bank and they said I'd have to talk to the branch manager on monday and that thier policy was that any deposit ~ cash or check made after 2pm wasn't cleared until the next business day. I think I might just start getting money orders for bills and cashing my check and taking dh's direct deposit out as soon as it's put in!

Will your bank maybe override the overpayment fees. Our bank has done that for us in the past.

I'm sorry this happened! :hug: In this economy every penny counts!
I know this isn't the issue here but something to be aware of...Some banks pay things in order of amount with largest being paid first even if it's not in consecutive order. If your bank does this and it's one of the reason things are bouncing you can make a major fuss and they should drop the fees. If they don't drop the fees threaten to pull your money and go to a different bank that doesn't do that.

I had something very similar happen to me. Go talk face to face to the branch manager, most likely, they will reverse all but one of the fees. I don't know why cash wouldn't clear instantly, especially since you did that deposit on a work day.

My bank used to at least give you cash deposits when you deposited them! How frustrating!!
I hear ya on not using the bank..We actually were having a lot of problems with ours charging us for everything, and we aren't using it at all now. We are living off of cash, and a re-fillable walmart debit card. And let me tell you, we spend a lot less now! Watching it go away makes me not spend it! Then we still can pay bills with the walmart card, since it's a visa. If you deposit a certain amount on there per month it's free, too. The only thing is it costs $4 to load it. But for us, it works. Just an idea! I hope you are able to get this worked out with the bank!

I soo hear you with the bank issues...we had a bank when we 1st got up here...opened it with Daniel's 1st check...then later on for Daniel to play FFXI we had to be able to pay online for it...so due to problems we'd had in the past with online payments we opened up a whole nother account in another bank and that was used scrictly for online payments of things like diaper covers and the game...welll the 1st account we used to pay rent via check and the phone/net via check...4 months along we started to run into issues the $ was disappearing from the account...that had happened to us once before so we left it open long enough for the rent check to clear then closed it...
we now use jus the 1 account...and have yet to see issues with it even though we use it to get things online...we pay rent via money order and the net/phone by cash...it works out great for us...each wk so much gets put into the account the rest we get in cash...if something comes up that's a we need it NOW type thing we jus use the card...no biggie I hope things get figured out for you soon *~hugs~* I know it's tough living check to check...

I hope things work out for the best. Financial issues suck especially when you are making it barely from one week to the next.Hang in there.
