My Hair

I am very embarassed by this so I am anon. My hair is falling out. I have to wash my head every single day or I get itchy places on my scalp that turn into scabs before I even scratch them. I don't think the hairloss is from the itchy places, but they are equally horrible for me. Does anyone know why this is happening to me? The itchy part just started about 7 months ago and my hair has been falling out forever but not as much as it is now.

Yikes! That sounds very unpleasant. I've never heard of that so I have no possible causes. Have you talked to your regular doc about it? I would definitely have it checked out.

It sounds like you might have a form of dermatitis or psoriasis of the scalp. That can cause you to lose your hair. I have a very mild form of dermatitis that I control with special shampoo I use just once a week (I use reg shampoo the other days).

When you say you had bloodwork done, what tests specifically?

I was thinking what Polly posted!

A friend of mine had that, her hair started falling out and she has scabs and scaly skin on her scalp.

I'd see a skin doctor to confirm though.

I agree with the other girls. The first thing I thought about the scalp was psoriasis. Maybe your reg dr. can refer you to someone if they don't know what is wrong? If the hair loss is not related to the scalp it could be as simple as a vitamin deficiency where you just need to take a vitamin for whatever you are lacking. I've also known women who experienced hair loss after pregnancy & it eventually stopped, but you make it sound as though this has been going on for awhile. I hope you get it figured out soon - it sounds very stressful/uncomfortable.

Bummer. Sounds like stress, too. My aunt lost a lot of her hair when she was going through her divorce. She was so stressed that her hair was coming out in clumps, if I remember correctly. I hope you get it figured out.

Did you go see a dermatologist? Did they test your thyroid levels? Have you stopped breast feeding recently?

I have no suggestions. Sound like you got some good ones though. I just wanted to say, that it is horrible for you but NOTHING to be embarrased about! Lots of women lose hair and it's not your FAULT!

i have somewhat of the same problem, there is a shampoo out in stores called t-gel, is is for psoriasis, i use is before i use it before i use my regular shampoo but you may want to only use that until it gets better, but still go to the doc, this may just be something to help until they can give you an answer. even is you don't have that, it helps with a sedative scalp, dandruff, i get soars if i don't use that, try it, it won't hurt...hope you find some answers from a doc soon
