My Mood:
I was super excited! Tears just started streaming down my face. I was about 5 weeks. I had previously had a molar pregnancy and when I got pregnant again had to be monitored super closely. After 2 weeks of bloodwork, I was called right in for an u/s which I of course thought the worst about. For an instant though I said to DH, "maybe it is twins, that would also cause my hormone levels to be too high." He gave me a funny look and said something like don't say that. So, we went fot the u/s and the tech was quiet for a while and then said "ok, here is a gestational sac...and here is another one" I just looked at DH then at her and said "2...like 2 babies?" and tears started streaming from my eyes. She said "yeah, looks like twins to me" They told me that I was going to lose 1 though. I had to have u/s every 2 weeks for a while, then at 10 weeks, both babies looked fine. All the weeks that they told me we were going to lose 1 though, I never felt that it was going to happen. I always felt that they were both going to be born. I have had 2 losses and felt that this was my reward for going through all of that.

That's weird Shayne, I had two losses also and feel the same way about the twins!
We found out at 5 weeks to the day. My beta's were super high and the nurse called and asked me to come in and check for "placement" which I've never heard of and we did not do when I was pregnant with Cole (same fertility clinic). When we went in we had the nurse that told me on the phone that the chance of having mupltiples that cyce was "less than 10%, I wouldn't even let it be a fleeting thought in your mind" because we only had one mature follicule and one that was only 16mm and didn't do a trigger shot or an IUI. I had told her we would sit that cycle out if our chance of twins was higher than normal.
Anyway, the nurse, Matt and the RE could see the screen and they were all silent, Matt had a really weird look on his face. Then the RE said "Well, let me show you what I see." and he swung the screen around. He said "I think I see two....yup! There's a clear shot of both of them, twins!" The first thing out of my mouth was "NO. We have a two year old!" Like that would change anything
At first we were both really shocked. The nurse told us they were measuring exactly the same so the chances of losing one was very low. The idea just took some getting used to, but now I really can't IMAGINE having one without the other! They're so much fun!!
It's neat to think back to the day we found out it was twins. It was the strangest moment, I can't even discribe how much everything changed in our lives in an instant!

I also had a previous molor pregnancy, so when I called my OB to tell her I got a BFP, she set up a u/s for 7 weeks. DH had in-service training that week, and couldn't come with me. When I went in for the u/s I told the tech that my dh couldn't make it so I asked her if I could have a printout to show him. The tech was taking a very long time, and wasn't saying much, which made me nervous. Then she said "Too bad your husband couldn't make it, he's missing a great ultrasound." Then she turned the screen towards me and said "there's two in there." It's a good thing I was lying down, or I probably would have fallen down. I was speechless, I just didn't believe it. And I couldn't even call dh to tell him, because he had to shut off his phone. After the appointment, I had to tell someone, so I called my mom. All day I kept thinking I had imagined it, so I kept pulling out the u/s photos to double check. DH finally called me at lunch time to see how everything went, and I told him. And his exact words were "I don't think you could have told me anything to make me happier."

Well because we had used assistated reproduction (Follistim injections) to get pregnant with our twins we had to schedule a 7 week u/s to be "released" from our RE.
So we were getting done with the u/s after the tech showed us the single strong and healthy heartbeat and as she was removing the u/s wand my husband yelled "put that back there is two"... and the tech re-inserted the wand and yep...sure thing... TWINS
While in shock I was on the top of the world... I have always wanted a large family and Dh had wanted a single child so we had compromised with two kids... :lol
I love every minute of it and wouldn't change it for the world if I could... my girls are my life and I wouldn't know what to do without them

Well, we did IVF (3rd attempt) and put back 2 embies. Since it hadn't worked previously we were hoping for just 1 embie to stick. When I got my first beta and it was 1850 we pretty much knew before the ultrasound that we were most likely having twins
But NOTHING was better than seeing those 2 heartbeats on the first ultrasound at 6w3d It was almost one year ago exactly - my first u/s was on 3-14-2006.

I wasn't even ttc when I got pregnant with the twins. Was nearly 9 weeks when I found out I was pregnant... and two days later found out twins. I cried.... My brother has twins, they were colicy for 18 months.

It was more of a surprise to my mom than me! LOL
I went in for the ultrasound with her and when the ultrasound tech said there were two heartbeats, I thought my mom was going to flip out! I kinda figured it was coming because I'd had a series of betas that were doubling very fast.
When dh got home from work that day, I told him to pick A or B. He chose B, and I told him he was in charge of that baby, and I'll take Baby A! That's exactly how it worked, too, he ended up naming Baby B, and I named Baby A. He was thrilled, he's still thrilled. Having twins is such a great experience!

We did IVF & they put back 2 embies. My doc said that if my 2nd beta came in @ 195 (11dp3dt) he would be pretty sure it was twins, it came back @ 194 so he said, let's wait until the u/s. Our first u/s showed us 1 sac w/ the little flicker hb, the second sac was there but we couldn't see anything in there---my mom went w/ me for that one, she'd been saying twins all along. We had a wait a whole week to confirm it was definately twins, luckily dh was there for the 2nd u/s & we were both soooo excited. I just had a feeling & when I said my St. Gerard prayer from the beginning I always changed it for 2!
Edited for spelling!

I'm surprised to see mamas here with previous molar pregnancies, since they are so rare. I also had a previous molar pregnancy. This is my 1st pregnancy since then and so far my betas have been 953 @ 16 DPO and 4334 @ 20 DPO. DH & I both have always wanted twins, so I'm hoping these numbers are high to indicate 2 might be in there! I go for my 1st u/s on Thursday. I'll be extremely happy to see even 1 healthy baby in there... 2 would be like a dream come true.
When you mamas say that you're betas were high in the beginning, how high were they? Do you remember exact numbers? I'm having a hard time waiting until Thursday!

Backyardigansm my betas were 69 @ 9dp3dt (12dpo) and 194 @ 11dp3dt (14 dpo). Wishing you lots of luck! I know there's a website that can give you more specific info on betas for multiples but it's just a range.
