Ugh. We got a call from his dad yesterday that she was at the hospital. He was on his way out of town - was calling us from the airport to let us know. She's had heart problems for years and her blood sugar was well over 300 when they admitted her. Both feet were black. HIs brother visited her yesterday morning and she was doing well, considering. Apparently, she was in good spirits and talking about Benjamin playing the piano, etc... The phone rang this morning at 2am, just as I was putting little Miss. Elisabeth (who is sick, of course) back into her bed. It was his sister, who happens to work at the same hospital where Grandma was, calling to let us know that she had just passed away. The cheapest flights from the closest airport are $1200-$1400 and it's just not worth it to drive 3 hours to St. Louis. By the time you get there two hours early, deal with the delays and transfers in Chicago, etc... etc..., you might as well drive and save some $$$. I *think* we're going to go with Scott. I have an appt. for Elisabeth at 10:30, so hopefully, it's nothing too horrible. Right now, she has a high fever and cough.
Soooo, Kelly, is Michigan really a place I want to be right now?

Rite, I am so sorry for your loss, you guys are in my I hope you have a safe trip to MI.
Where in MI are you heading? Right now in the metro-Detroit area it is snowing, we are getting a blizzard pretty much. It started last night and is supposed to snow until around 8PM tonight. We have about 6-8 inches already and are predicted to get a total of around 15 inches.
No, I don't think you want to be in Michigan today Rite

Thanks guys. Kelly, Scott grew up in Zeelend, which is right by Holland. They always get TONS of lake effect snow, so if you have that much, we're going to be screwed. My kids will think it's awesome though. Too bad we don't have snow pants for them. Once we're there, they handle the snow fairly well, but I don't want to drive in blizzard conditions. We're either leaving tomorrow night or Wednesday night, depending on when the funeral ends up being scheduled for, etc...

Rite, it has stopped snowing finally. I would say we have between 8-10 inches, so much less then predicted. They are pretty good at clearing the roads/highways so hopefully by tomorrow it shouldn't be bad to travel. Take care and have a safe trip

Minnesota weather (which could be MI's by the time you get there) has been sunny, warm and thawing the ice/snow off the roads (jus some slush and slippery roads early morning hours...)
I hope you have a safe trip and the roads aren't too bad for you
