Sad S T U B B O R N

How do you spell Brodie? S T U B B O R N!

This child... what to do with him????

Me: Brodie pick up all the legos on the floor.
Brodie: I don't feel like it.
Me: You got them out. Pick them up.
Brodie: Um, I am too tired.
Me: Pick them up or you will go to time out.
Brodie: Ok

Time out.
Time out over.

Me: Now pick up your blocks.
Brodie: I want to go back to time out.
Me: Pick them up or I'm throwing them in the trash.
Brodie: Ok

Me picking up legos and throwing them in the trash.

He couldn't care LESS!!! So I take away his tv time. So what? I take away his DS. So what? He is now limited to sitting with a book. He couldn't care less. Where do i go from here??????????????????????????

These have been DAILY battles. He just doesn't care. Even seeing his toys going into the trash doesn't phase him a bit!!! H.E.L.P!

That must be so frustrating.
Sorry, I have no advice. Will just send hugs and hope his 'behaviour' passes soon.

I'm sorry! The only thing I can say is keep being consistent and keep having consequences. My kids each have one thing that is a big deal if they have it taken from them for not listening. We use it as a total last resort, but if it gets to the point that we have to take it (for example, Cole has a blanket), it's a BIG deal and it definitely gets the point across. Does he have anything like that?"

Sadly, no he doesn't have anything like that. He has toys he likes and plays with more than others but when he is mad/upset he could care less. He LOVES his drawing board. I took it away and he saw me putting it up on the shelf and I told him he wouldn't see it the rest of the day. He said, "bye" and walked away. I am SO consistant. Problem is he doesn't CARE AT ALL !!!

Not sure if it will phase him or not, but I hate hate hate the "I'm too tired to..." business. Drives me crazy. Myatt pulls it all the time. My response is generally: "ok, well then you can go upstairs and go to bed." With Myatt, I am also able to move bedtime up in 15 minute increments until he quits arguing with me. But my child hates going to bed early. Not sure if that would work with Brodie. And yes, there are nights where Myatt goes to bed as soon as supper is over.

I do the "ok, well then you can go upstaris and go to bed" and he just goes on upstairs and lays in his bed and sings and talks to himself, etc. So frusterating because if he digs his heels in he WON'T budge. And he's got such a good imagination that he can entertain himself pretty good! I will try the moving his bedtime up in increments though! I haven't done that! Thanks!

I am there with Jayson. He doesn't quite understand things yet. So we butt heads. I don't know IF I could deal with taking his blankey away.

UGH! I'm So So sorry you're going through that - I've been going through that with Sabrina for YEARS (and she's 12!!)! Her therapist says that we need to put a positive spin on it (and that Sabrina more than likely cares that you've taken her stuff away though you'd bet your pay check that she didn't care one little bit) try saying: "I realize you're tired - I am too!!! But if you pick up those blocks you can have 5 extra minutes of play time in the tub." (or something he really enjoys)

I also agree - consistency is KEY! And don't get fired up and raise your voice - stay calm and show B that its no sweat off your back.

Good luck. I hope this helps!

Benjamin is super-stubborn and has never minded time out. However, I recently changed it to where he must stand with hands at his side and nose in the corner and suddenly, he cares a LOT! In fact, that's how both of my kids do time out now and they have been begging me to let them do it sitting down again because, get this, it's not comfortable! I nicely explained that it's not supposed to be comfortable and they just need to be respectful and follow the rules to avoid being uncomfortable. It's taken me SIX years, but I finally found something that works. I hope that you can find something too - I know how frustrating it can be!

Thanks Rite and Priscilla! I will try both of your suggestions! Luckily Brodie has been super well behaved for the past two days!
