Not a stupid question! And definitely don't feel like you should know everything about pregnancy because you're female. TTC and pregnancy have a HUGE learning curve and we've all been in that clueless spot at one point or another. Totally no stupid questions!!
Fraternal twins can have a genetic aspect, but it would only come into play if twins were common on YOUR side. Since fraternal twins result from the mother releasing two eggs, you'd have to have the genes to make you more likely than normal to release two eggs in one month.
Identical twins can happen at any time to anyone. It's just a random splitting of a fertilized egg and there haven't been any studies that show any sort of genetic aspect that makes it more likely to happen.
