The size of the wedding, and how much it did or did not cost does not correlate to the feelings of the couple.

and get married somewhere fun, like be married by "Elvis"in Vegas, or I want to have a very small ceremony (only immediate family) on a beach somewhere, barefoot
I've heard of more than a few people having a very small ceremony or eloping and then for an anniversary down the line they have a bigger ceremony to renew there vows.
I think you and DH should do whatever you two feel most comfortable with doing. If YOU want to have a bigger ceremony so that friends & family can be "a part" of it do it, if not don't worry about it and consider something like an anniversary party or something like that.
